It’s a great pleasure to welcome you to our Central Ensembles showcase this evening.
At Services for Education we are proud of the opportunities that our wide ranging Ensembles programme gives so many young people to do something wonderful – make music. We are equally proud that these opportunities remain free of charge so that all young people have equal access to the fantastic musical groups you will witness in the concert tonight.
I’m aware that as well of our amazing team of teachers, ensemble leaders and tutors there is one group of people that make these events possible – you, the parents, carers, families and friends of our young people. Without managing the complicated family logistics, and ensuring everyone gets to the right rehearsal at the right time in the right place, it would be impossible to achieve the quality of performance you are going to witness tonight. Thank you!
We are all aware of the power of Music, and we will continue to champion amazing opportunities for the young people of Birmingham. As well as the development of musical skills, we all know that the opportunity to play in a musical ensemble develops so many other skills within a child. As someone who only moved to Birmingham in September, I continue to be amazed by the dedication, quality and resilience of both our incredible staff and young people. They push each other to be the best versions of themselves, and that is a wonderful thing to witness on a daily basis.
A final thank you to Arts Council England for their continued support of our Ensembles programme, and to the team here at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for their hosting of tonight’s event.
Enjoy the concert!
