Can You Support Services For Education?

Due to the current situation, we are, for obvious reasons, unable to continue business as usual at Services For Education, but we hope that the hard work our music teachers have put in recently to provide online music opportunities for both our ensemble members and school pupils shines through.

This year, we’ve been running 20 virtual central ensembles and 6 virtual area ensemble projects!

If you can spare the price of what would have been a festive concert ticket, it would make a huge difference to us and the children we support.

We love what we do, especially our musical ensembles for children, but we need your support to keep these going.

About the bollywood brass band

The Bollywood Brass Band is a London-based group of 10 musicians who play brass, saxophone and drums – featuring the dhol, the loud drum from the Punjab played in bhangra music. The band was formed in 1992 after collaborating with the Shyam Brass Band from India at the International Street Music Festival in London, and has been playing for festivals and weddings ever since, combining Bollywood music and dhol beats with Western music influences – from jazz to classical.

The band has released 6 CDs and played all over the world, including for weddings in India. Their collaboration with South Indian violin virtuoso Jyotsna Srikanth led to the recording of ‘Carnatic Connection’ which was nominated for a Songlines magazine award and named number 12 in the magazine’s top world music CDs of the last five years (2018-20).

Some of the band’s favourite performances include the BBC Blue Peter Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, performing at WOMAD Festival UK and, of course, playing for Indian weddings everywhere from London to Bombay! BBB is delighted to be working with Services for Education for the Spring Schools’ Proms and look forward to working with staff and young people in the future.
